About the program

Engines that can operate on the dual-fuel mode can burn a gaseous fuel via the conventional liquid fuel injection system to introduce only a relatively small amount of liquid fuel to provide consistent ignition.

After the completion of this course, students will understand the fundamentals of dual-fuel engines, and it will serve as a refresher for practicing engineers.

After completing this course, you will be able to

  • Develop a detailed understanding on the essentials of Dual Fuel Engines (DFE)
  • Learn essential concepts such as the Fundamentals of Combustion, including combustion processes, flames, and ignition. Explore topics like diesel engine combustion, heat release analysis, and the flammability and combustion limits of gas fuel-air mixtures
  • Gain understanding about various gases used as engine fuels, dual fuel engine- performance, knocking, exhaust emissions and operational features

Certification

To obtain a certificate of completion for EIT’s Professional Certificate of Competency, students must achieve a 65% attendance rate at the live, online fortnightly webinars. Detailed summaries/notes can be submitted in lieu of attendance. In addition, students must obtain a mark of 60% in the set assignments which could take the form of written assignments and practical assignments. Students must also obtain a mark of 100% in quizzes. If a student does not achieve the required score, they will be given an opportunity to resubmit the assignment to obtain the required score.

Modules included

  • Introduction to Combustion Engine
  • Various Gases Used as Engine Fuels
