About the program

Hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier and there are several technologies available to produce it, from renewable sources to gas, oil, coal and nuclear. This course covers hydrogen chemistry, transportation and storage and explores the range of hydrogen technologies currently available. This course is designed for non-engineers and does not require prior experience or knowledge on the subject.

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen and explain their relevance to its use as an energy source.
  • Describe the industrial applications of hydrogen, such as its use in the cement and steel industry, and transportation (maritime, rail, long-haul trucking) and storage.
  • Explain the importance of hydrogen in transitioning to a more sustainable and low-carbon energy future.
  • Compare and contrast the green, blue, and grey hydrogen production technologies in terms of their environmental impact, energy efficiency and current usage.
  • Summarize the various methods of hydrogen storage and transportation, such as compression, pipelines and liquid hydrogen.

Certification

To obtain a certificate of completion for EIT’s Professional Certificate of Competency, students must achieve a 65% attendance rate at live, online fortnightly webinars. Detailed summaries/notes can be submitted in lieu of attendance. In addition, students must obtain a mark of 60% in the set assignments which could take the form of written assignments and practical assignments. Students must also obtain a mark of 100% in quizzes. If a student does not achieve the required score, they will be given an opportunity to resubmit the assignment to obtain the required score.
